Six wireless and telecom industry groups call FM on cell phones "bad policy"
The Consumer Electronics Association and CTIA-The Wireless Association are among those who write leaders in both the House and Senate today, saying that “mandating that every wireless device include an FM chip” is bad policy for several reasons:
#1, consumers would be paying more for “a function they may not desire or ever use.”
#2, The groups promoting the idea (the NAB and the music industry) don’t have expertise in the area. And
#3, there are other ways to address the country’s emergency alerting needs, through efforts of the technology industry and government. Also signing today’s letters: The Information Industry Technology Industry Council, the rural Cellular Association, TechAmerica, and the Telecommunications Industry Association.
