Telecom equipment vendor Nokia Siemens Networks said Thursday it is acquiring Turkish network service firm IRIS Telecom for an undisclosed sum to boost its network planning and optimization business across the region.
Subject to regulatory approval, the deal should be completed during the first quarter 2011, the company said.
Nokia Siemens said IRIS, which has around 630 employees, will continue to operate independently under its own name, with its head office in Istanbul.
"Nokia Siemens Networks will use IRIS Telecom's localized operations and strong position in [Network Planning and Optimization] to improve our own service delivery model in Turkey, Eastern Europe and Central Asia," the company's regional head of Services, Geert Buijk, said.
Nokia Siemens is a joint venture between Finland's Nokia Corp.(NOK) and Germany's Siemens AG (SI).
